AUSTIN, TX (December 16, 2008)—NetSpend Corporation, one of the premier providers of prepaid reloadable debit cards in the United States, announced today that it has been ranked number 58 in Inc.com's Top 100 List in the Financial Services category. Inc.com is the online arm of Inc. Magazine. Inc.com today also announced its annual ranking of the 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the country. NetSpend ranked in the top 20% at number 1000. The Fastest-Growing Private Companies' list is a comprehensive look at a very important segment of the economy — America's independent-minded entrepreneurs.
Inc.com’s Top 100 lists are taken from the larger Inc. 5000 list and sorted by industry. The 5000 companies that made the master list reported aggregate revenue of $185 billion and median three-year growth of 147 percent. Most important, the 2008 Inc. 5000 companies were engines of job growth, having created more than 826,033 jobs since those companies were founded.
Having issued more than 16 million prepaid debit cards and gift cards, NetSpend has one of the most convenient and accessible retail networks in the country, including more than 30,000 card purchase locations and a total of approximately 65,000 card reload locations. In addition to its broad nationwide retail presence, NetSpend raises thousands of dollars every year through the sale of Breast Cancer Awareness and March of Dimes-themed prepaid, reloadable debit cards, contributing a portion of those card sales to each charity.
"We are honored to be a part of the Inc.com lists and to be ranked number 58 in the financial services category," said Daniel R. Henry, CEO of NetSpend. "We have a fantastic team of dedicated employees who have worked diligently to grow the company and expand our products and services, so it's a wonderful feeling to be recognized for all of our hard work."
"Our second annual Inc. 5000 continues the most ambitious project in business journalism," said Inc. 5000 Project Manager Jim Melloan. "The Inc. 5000 gives an unrivalled portrait of young, underreported companies across all industries doing fascinating things with cutting-edge business models, as well as older companies that are still showing impressive growth."
The 2008 Inc. 5000 list measures revenue growth from 2004 through 2007. To qualify, companies must be U.S.-based and privately held, independent – not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies – as of December 31, 2007, and have had at least $200,000 in revenue in 2004, and $2 million in 2007. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, NetSpend has approximately 300 employees and experienced 368.4% growth from 2004 to 2007.
